Gravel Driveways

A driveway is more than dumping rock. Potholes, ruts and standing water usually come from what's underneath. We build drives with proper grading, a solid base, drainage and a final grade that sheds water, so they hold up.

Quick answer

A lasting gravel driveway needs three things: proper grading so water flows off, a solid compacted base so it doesn't sink or rut, and drainage so it doesn't wash out. Adding more gravel to a bad driveway only covers the problem. Streamline Construction Services builds and repairs gravel driveways across the Shoals and North Alabama.

How we do it

Done right underneath.

  1. Cut and shape

Strip the soft stuff and shape a crown so water runs off both sides.

  2. Base

Chert goes down and gets compacted. This is the part that carries the load.

  3. Drainage

Ditches or culverts where water crosses or collects.

  4. Surface

Fresh gravel spread and leveled on top.

Questions we get

Will more gravel fix my driveway?

Not always. If your driveway keeps getting potholes, ruts or standing water, the problem is usually underneath. Proper grading, a solid base and good drainage fix the cause. More gravel just covers it for a while.

What goes under a gravel driveway?

A graded, compacted subgrade, a chert base, and drainage where water crosses. The surface gravel is the last and thinnest part.

Can you repair an existing driveway?

Yes. We regrade, rebuild the base where it's failed and put fresh gravel on top.

Do you install culverts under driveways?

Yes, where a ditch or low spot crosses the drive.
